Ensemble K is made up of a core group of 14 soloists who share a cosmopolitan and inquisitive vision of music, performing classical, 20th-century and contemporary repertoire. For the ensemble, a concert is not simply an intellectual experience, but a meeting of the intellect, the emotions and the spirit.
Founded in 2019 by Italian-Brazilian conductor Simone Menezes, Ensemble K describes itself as Klassic, Kosmopolitan, Kreative, Konnected, and Le Monde hailed the group's unique vision by declaring, ‘And it's true!’ Since its inception, it has performed in the world's greatest concert halls, including Milan, Rome, Paris, Vienna and Berlin.
The ensemble's first album, Accents, reflects this philosophy by highlighting non-European influences in Western classical music. The 2021 album, Metanoia, features works by Puccini, Bach, Villa-Lobos and Pärt. This project, which explores music and art as vectors of transcendence and beauty in dialogue with other art forms, was awarded the 2023 International Classical Music Prize for best classical music documentary/performance.
En 2022, l’Ensemble K a présenté Beauty Will Save the World, qui comprenait de la musique de Tchaïkovski, Debussy et Brahms.
This project marked the closing of the Women's Pavilion at the Dubai World Expo, and culminated in a concert recorded live at the Dubai Opera House. In the same year, the ensemble revisited Holst's Planets in collaboration with artist Mathias Duhamel, who created a live painting during the concert.
Their latest project, Scheherazade, A Tale, published as a double CD by Alpha Classics, was premiered at the Pierre Boulez Saal. This ambitious work integrates Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade with a narrative component, creating a rich and immersive experience. The project has been acclaimed by the international press and is also available as a streaming concert.
In addition to concerts, Ensemble K is deeply involved in social and educational initiatives in northern France, working closely with schools and women in difficult circumstances. Through music and partnerships with other arts, the ensemble encourages self-expression and supports the rebuilding of individual identity.
