Biography

Named “Lyrical Revelation of the Year” at the 2021 Victoires de la Musique Classique, Marie-Laure Garnier captivates audiences and leaves an indelible mark with her powerful, expressive voice.

But it is not only her voice that makes her an unforgettable artist. Her warm personality and deep connection with audiences establish her as a true ambassador of emotion and beauty. Each note invites the listener on a spellbinding journey through her musical universe, where emotion and magic intertwine.

Marie-Laure Garnier is an artist of boundless versatility. From grand opera to intimate recitals, her wide-ranging repertoire allows her to navigate every performance with grace and elegance. Her voice is an exceptional instrument, bringing masterpieces of the classical canon to life with remarkable ease.

Her impressive journey, marked by accolades and distinction, reflects her undeniable talent and unwavering commitment to her art. Born in French Guiana, she began her musical training at a young age and moved to Paris at 14 to pursue her passion. In 2009, she joined the vocal class of Malcolm Walker at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. After receiving her singing prize with distinction, she earned both an Artist Diploma and a Master’s degree in Chamber Music.

A 2013 ADAMI “Lyrical Revelation,” Marie-Laure Garnier is a laureate of the Académie Orsay-Royaumont and the Aix-en-Provence Festival. She won Second Prize at the Mâcon International Singing Competition in 2014 and First Prize at the Cziffra Competition in 2015. At the 2017 Nadia and Lili Boulanger Competition, she received the French Mélodie Prize with pianist Célia Oneto Bensaid. In 2019, she was awarded the Grand Prize at the prestigious Voix des Outre-mer Competition. In 2022, the French Critics’ Association named her “Musical Revelation of the Year.”

Known for her radiant stage presence, she has performed at many of France’s leading venues, including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Philharmonie de Paris, Toulouse Capitole, the opera houses of Versailles, Bordeaux, Rouen, Quimper, as well as at La Chaise-Dieu Festival and the Pablo Casals Festival. Her standout performance at the 14 July Grand Concert de Paris at the foot of the Eiffel Tower brought her further acclaim. Internationally, she has appeared at the Oxford Lieder Festival, Reina Sofía Auditorium in Madrid, Bourgie Hall in Montreal, Wigmore Hall in London, Skebo Manor in Sweden, Schumannhaus in Germany, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow, and the National Theatre of Santo Domingo.

Marie-Laure Garnier has already distinguished herself in the flamboyant role of the Singer in Philippe Boesmans’ Reigen. She made her true operatic debut at the Théâtre du Capitole (in Toulouse,performing roles such as (Gerhilde(Die Walküre, Wagner), (Ygraine (Ariane et Barbe-Bleue, Dukas), the Fifth Maid ((Elektra, Strauss), and Juno. (Platée, Rameau). (She hasmade a strong (impressionin the roles of the (FemaleChorus (The Rape of Lucretia, Britten), (Geneviève(Pelléas et Mélisande, Debussy), Damielle (Les Ailes du désir, Othman Louati), Carmen (Bizet), Venus (Orphée aux Enfers, Offenbach), and Tosca (Puccini)
