Thomas Briant has established himself today as one of the most distinctive voices of his generation. A violinist with a fiery and inquisitive personality, he is forging a path in which the demands of the great repertoire engage in dialogue with a strong commitment to creation.
He first trained at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris in the classes of Stéphanie-Marie Degand and Jean-Marc Phillips-Varjabédian, before continuing his studies at the Haute École de Musique de Lausanne under Renaud Capuçon. Throughout his training, he benefited from the guidance of artists such as Augustin Dumay, Vladimir Spivakov, Nemanja Radulović, Gérard Poulet, and Shmuel Ashkenasi…
His artistic commitment was quickly recognized through several distinctions. He became a laureate of the 5th Joël Klépal Appassionato International Violin Competition in 2019. More recently, during a recital at the Sommets Musicaux de Gstaad, he won both the Thierry Scherz Prize and the André Hoffmann Prize.
Invited to perform at numerous festivals across Europe and beyond, from the George Enescu International Festival to the Aix-en-Provence Easter Festival, he has appeared alongside leading artists such as Martha Argerich, Gautier Capuçon, Anne Gastinel, Vincent Coq, Raphaël Pidoux, and Anneleen Lenaerts.
A passionate chamber musician, he is a member of the Trio Zarathoustra, in residence at the Singer-Polignac Foundation, and also performs in a duo with accordionist Julien Beautemps, exploring a musical territory ranging from the great repertoire to contemporary aesthetics and jazz influences.
Committed to broadening the horizons of the violin repertoire, Thomas Briant arranges, composes, and collaborates with contemporary creators, including Betsy Jolas, Éric Montalbetti, Yves Chauris, and Yann Robin.
He performs on a 1735 Gagliano violin, generously made available to him by Mr. Zilber at the initiative of the Talents & Violon’celles endowment fund—an instrument of luminous depth, reflecting his artistic commitment.
